Every year, youth professional associations host galas to celebrate their professions in unision with moderate turnout and mediocre quality. The trend continued year after year and the membership was content with it. Banquet hall. Three course meal. Dance floor with Top 40.
But enough was enough.
One year, together my team and I decided that we could provide more value and an amazing experience if all these organizations came together as a singular force. If we were all syndicated on one objective, we could take a conventional event and turn it into something that has never been done before in UofT history.
And so we did, and we called it the Syndicate.
Instead of a banquet hall in the surburbs, we took them to the Steam Whistle, one of Toronto's most iconic venues. Instead of a conventional three course meal, we gave them loads of quality hor d'oeuvres served by wonderful wandering waiters & waitresses. Instead of the typical Top 40 music, we got a pair of DJs that were signed with Universal Music to perform their originals and unlreleased remixes. Instead of a sit down affair, we made everyone stand up, interact with each other, the exhibits we had and the art battle, had them dance and meet new people.
Instead of doing it like our ancestors, we chose to identify every convential expectation of an event like this
—and exceeded them.
And it was awesome.
